Our Story: Built on Generations of Excellence
Since 1965, Commander Power Systems has been a cornerstone of reliable power solutions on Long Island. Founded by William Haugland, a Korean War veteran and Purple Heart recipient, the company began as a small electrical business with a simple mission: to keep homes and businesses running, no matter what.
William’s dedication to craftsmanship and innovation led to early success, including securing contracts with major grocery chains in the 1970s and becoming the first Onan generator dealer in the country. By the 1990s, his son, James Haugland, had taken the reins. Navigating through challenges like the recession, James revitalized the business, transforming it into the premier generator service provider it is today.

President of Commander Power Systems, took over the family business from his father, continuing the legacy of integrity, reliability, and exceptional service. His leadership ensures that every client receives top-tier care, especially in those critical moments when power is essential.
Outside of work, Jim is a dedicated family man who enjoys spending time with loved ones and giving back to his community, staying true to the values that guide both his personal and professional life.

The Generator Technician is responsible for performing maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting on a variety of generator systems. This role requires expertise in diesel and natural gas engine repair, as well as excellent customer service skills.
